Aira has made a big impact in a short time. Founded in Sweden in 2022 and landing in the UK in November 2023, this firm is already one of Europe’s leading clean energy firms. In fact, we named it the best heat pump installer currently operating in the UK.

The company’s fully employed teams also install solar panels, storage batteries, EV chargers and insulation, but heat pumps are at the heart of what Aira does.

Aira’s installers only work with one brand of heat pump: Aira’s own. The Aira Heat Pump took the number one spot in our roundup of the best air source heat pumps, thanks to its 15-year warranty and outstanding performance.

The subscription-style Aira finance plan is unique in the UK heat pump industry. The plan is offered in addition to the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant, which Aira helps its customers claim.

Here we’ll take a closer look at Aira’s products and services, and reveal what its customers have to say.

Aira installs clean energy systems – including heat pumps, solar panels and storage batteries – for residential customers across most of England and Scotland. This makes it a bigger and broader provider than most of its rivals.

However, it’s still a relative newcomer. The company was founded in Stockholm in 2022, bringing together engineers with more than 20 years’ experience. It’s now expanding fast across Europe and employing thousands of installers with local expertise. Its UK hubs include Manchester, London, Sheffield and Stirling.

More than 60% of Swedish homes have an air source heat pump installed, and Aira wants to help the rest of the world catch up. It has invested £300 million in its aim to install Aira Heat Pumps in 1 million UK households within 10 years. Aira also wants to decarbonise enough European homes to achieve a 1% reduction in total global carbon emissions.

“We are capitalising on our commercial momentum and accelerating the decarbonisation of residential heating,” says Aira CEO Martin Lewerth.

Aira is partnering with numerous UK companies to help it achieve its ambitions. It works with energy supplier Octopus Energy to offer 100% green tariffs, and with UK engineering community Heat Geek to train technicians. It has also invested in Yorkshire’s All Seasons Energy to provide solar panels and home insulation.

What heat pumps and solar panels does Aira UK install?

Aira installs all kinds of green energy systems, but only works with one brand of heat pump: its own.

The Aira Heat Pump took the top spot in our rundown of the best air source heat pumps. If you have your heart set on a different heat pump, you won’t get it from Aira – but you won’t find many better than theirs.

The decision to focus on just one or two product models is common among the best heat pump installers and best solar panel installers. It allows their teams to become highly specialised experts in that product. They know how to optimise it for your system and choose the best components. They can also answer any questions and fix any problems that you might have.

Aira doesn’t publish details of the solar panels, batteries and EV chargers they work with. We have asked the company for more information about this, because it’s a key part of deciding whether they’re the right partner for your switch to renewables.

How good is the Aira Heat Pump?

The Aira Heat Pump is a beautifully designed product that delivers among the best performance you’ll find in any air source heat pump.

Its biggest advantages include its energy rating (up to A+++), efficiency (470%) and excellent cold weather performance. It also has the best warranty in the business – more on that in a moment.

The Aira Heat Pump comes in three sizes (6kW, 8kW and 12kW). Whatever size you go for, you don’t just get a box that sits outside. In addition to the outdoor unit, you also get a sleek, modern indoor unit that effectively replaces your boiler.

You also get the Aira Home Energy app, which lets you control and monitor your heating and hot water from anywhere. It also lets you track your monthly energy savings and the pump’s performance. Aira’s engineers can even troubleshoot your system remotely via the app.

The Aira Heat Pump costs from around £3,000 plus installation by Aira’s professional teams. In most cases, the £7,500 BUS grant will be subtracted from your total bill.

What guarantees does Aira offer?

Aira’s product, performance and workmanship guarantees are among the best we’ve come across when researching green domestic tech installers.

Its heat pump comes with a 15-year ‘Comfort Guarantee’ – a whopping five years longer than its closest comparable rival. This promises an indoor temperature of between 18˚C and 22˚C, even on the coldest day of the year.

You also get a 15-year product and installation warranty that includes all labour and necessary maintenance. You won’t be charged any call-out fees or asked to pay for any parts.

If you buy the Aira Heat Pump on the company’s all-inclusive plan, you also get the 15-year Aira Guarantee. This promises at least four times more heating efficiency than a boiler, plus “complete temperature comfort”.

What is Aira’s heat pump subscription?

Aira’s subscription-style payment plan aims to help customers spread the cost of their switch to renewables. It’s simpler than many standard finance options, and this has led to it being called “Spotify for heat pumps”. However, it’s not quite that simple: you still have to have to apply for financing and your credit approved.

Aira also helps customers claim government grants for green home improvements, including the £7,500 BUS grant for heat pumps.

What qualifications does Aira have?

Like all the installers we consider for review, Aira is MCS-certified. This means its installers and products meet strict green industry standards for quality, competence and compliance and can apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant on your behalf. It’s a bottom-line essential for any installer of green technology for your home or business.

Aira’s heat pump installers are also fully qualified employees rather than contractors, and they’re all Gas Safe registered. In addition, the company is registered by TrustMark. This government-backed scheme certifies installations as safe and carried out by experienced professionals.

These qualifications offer you peace of mind that the work is safe and reliable, and will deliver the energy savings you’re hoping for. MCS certification is also prerequisite if you want to access government grants for home improvements.

Aira has a “great” Trustpilot score of 4.2 from 293 reviews at the time of writing, with 72% of all reviews giving the maximum five stars.

That is indeed great, but it’s not the best we’ve seen recently. Rival heat pump and solar installer Warma UK boasts a 4.4 score and Project Solar UK tips the scales with an “excellent” 4.7. But given that Aira has been operating in the UK for barely a year, we think its 4.2 shows it’s made a very good start.

Aira’s reviews from verified customers praise its professionalism, clear communication and fast work. The heat pump system is hailed as a game-changer for homeowners, with low running costs and reliable performance.

Here are a few representative user comments from recent weeks:

“The team who attended were fantastic. Everything was completed so smoothly and methodically, and the communication with all the technicians was superb.”John Sinclair, January 2025

“Excellent service from start to finish. Really pleased with the air source heat pump system. Property is lovely and warm, plenty of hot water and cheap to run.” Debbie Hill, January 2025

“They all worked so hard over the 5 days to complete the job on the Friday, and were all so helpful in explaining the system to us. It was a very cold week with doors open, but they brought fan heaters to alleviate the cold for us. We cannot thank them enough.”Jill, December 2024

“They were incredibly respectful of my home, taking care to protect surfaces and thoroughly cleaning up after themselves. The new system looks fantastic and performs even better! I’m impressed with aftercare. They’ve provided clear and helpful information about maintenance and how to get the most out of my new heat pump.”Darren Doyle, December 2024

Aira is a relative newcomer to the UK market, but it has hit the ground running in amazingly impressive style. We have no hesitation in recommending them for your switch to low-carbon heating and for your solar and EV installations, too.

The company employs teams of local engineers who know their market and understand the needs of British homeowners. You’ll never be lumbered with a subcontractor, and all workers know the Aira Heat Pump inside out because it’s the only heating system they fit.

Customer reviews repeatedly praise the professional, conscientious approach of Aira’s teams. They also report that Aira provides good value for money and excellent aftercare.

Aira does place plenty of emphasis on its subscription-style payments plan, but you don’t have to use it. Indeed, no customer reviews mention “financing”, “payments” or “subscription”, at least so far. What they do say (frequently!) is that there’s no hard sell. Instead, the team is happy to meet and discuss the costs, installation and benefits of their system before you sign on any dotted lines.
