An air source heat pump (ASHP) is a green way to heat your home and water. As we set out in our guide to heat pump costs in Ireland, these heating systems can dramatically cut your carbon footprint and energy bills. They reduce a home’s heating costs by up to 70% – and help make the Emerald Isle even greener.

No wonder heat pumps are booming. According to the latest figures from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), around 112,000 Irish homes had heat pumps at the end of 2023; up from 80,000 a year before. The government now wants to roll out 400,000 heat pump retrofits by the end of 2030. To help, it offers Irish homeowners an SEAI grant of up to €6,500.

That still leaves you with a chunky upfront investment, however. The average Irish residential heat pump installation costs between €13,000 and €17,000.

To help you spend your money wisely, we’ve compiled this guide to Ireland’s best heat pump installers.

Our researchers spent more than 20 hours scrutinising 102 SEAI-registered installers on criteria including guarantees, experience, financing and customer feedback. We reveal our top six below.

SSE Airtricity is one of Ireland’s largest green energy providers, so there’s a fair chance it’s already supplying your gas and electricity. If so, hiring its team to install your heat pump may be easier and cheaper than switching to a whole new provider.

The company, founded in 1997 as Eirtricity, derives all its mains electricity from renewable sources. It now offers a whole range of renewables systems and tariffs for Irish home and business customers including heat pumps (the Mitsubishi Ecodan model), solar panels, insulation, storage batteries and home EV chargers.

You can opt for a heat pump installation alone, or use the company’s One Stop Shop upgrade programme to plan your shift to multiple green energy systems. Airtricity also offers bundle discounts if you’re having more than one type of system installed.

With a 3.8 Trustpilot score (deemed “Great”), SSE Airtricity has better customer feedback than you may expect for a firm of its size and with such a wide remit. Negative reviews tend to focus on gas and electricity pricing, which is broadly out of Airtricity’s hands – but its customer service team replies graciously to all grumbles anyway.

Airtricity does more than many rivals to help customers pay for green upgrades. It’s a delivery partner for the SEAI Warmer Homes Scheme and supports the EnergyCloud initiative, which redirects surplus energy to homes in need. The company has also launched a €5m (£4.3m) Generation Green Community Fund to raise clean energy across Irish communities. Like the other firms we feature here, Airtricity will also help you access SEAI grants and loans.

Pros
  • Provides a wide range of renewable energy systems across the island of Ireland
  • Offers bundles and packages to save money if you're installing multiple systems
  • Works with the reliable, efficient Mitsubishi Ecodan heat pump
  • Customers praise the company's support and aftercare, with particular kudos for help with grants
Cons
  • Customer feedback includes a few grumbles about pricing, but all negative reviews receive a reply
  • Currently only installs the Mitsubishi Ecodan, which isn't the cheapest heat pump – so your price options are limited

What SSE Airtricity’s customers say:

“Any time I have contacted SSE Airtricity I have always had a great experience. Any member of staff I have spoken to over the phone or on chat have been friendly, professional and efficient, and resolved any questions straight away.”Abby, February 2025

“Was having difficulty receiving the government credit after buying a property. Spoke With Leanne and she sorted the government credit immediately. Absolutely stellar service and a credit to the company.”Craig Ryan, February 2025

EcoForest heat pumps from Efficient Renewables

Efficient Renewables is one of Ireland’s longest-established clean energy installers. Operating from County Donegal since 2009, the company installs heat pumps, solar panels, storage batteries and other renewable energy systems for residential and commercial clients across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Most green energy companies don’t operate showrooms, but Efficient Renewables does – so you can see its heat pumps in action, and ask questions in person. It’s well worth a visit if you’re anywhere near Newtowncunningham, and will help you get a better idea of the type and size of system that would best suit your home.

Like many of the UK’s best heat pump installers, Efficient Renewables focuses on one brand of heat pump. It is Ireland’s sole distributor of the EcoForest heat pump range, which it believes to be the most efficient heat pump available. Efficient Renewables works with both air source and ground source EcoForest heat pumps.

The EcoForest ecoAIR air source heat pump pump (pictured above) uses natural R290 refrigerant, aka propane. This is one of the most environmentally friendly refrigerants currently available. The pump comes in power ranges of up to 12kW – enough for a busy household – and can heat water up to an impressive 75ºC, making it ideal for heat pump installations with radiators.

There’s plenty of SEAI grant info on Efficient Renewables’ website, including the maximum amount a household can claim for different types of renewable energy installations. You will need to engage an independent SEAI Registered Technical Advisor to assess your home, but Efficient Renewables can help you with this.

Customer feedback on Efficient Renewables is limited but excellent, with particular praise for the installers’ friendly guidance and aftercare. The company has only 17 verified reviews on Trustpilot, but only one of them gives it four stars – all the others give it the maximum five.

Pros
  • Has a showroom in Co. Donegal so you can see before you buy
  • Provides a range of renewable energy systems across Ireland
  • Has worked with EcoForest to develop its highly efficient heat pumps
  • Customer feedback is superb, praising workmanship and service
Cons
  • Only installs EcoForest heat pumps, so your options are limited
  • Limited feedback makes it hard to judge this company alongside larger rivals, but its customer reviews are outstanding

What Efficient Renewables’ customers say:

“Excellent company showing genuine interest in my requirements for solar and heat pump. Brought me through the full process and advised me of my grant entitlements and made the application painless from start to finish. Always available to help when getting familiar with the system.”Niall Kavanagh, November 2023

“Thankfully we chose Christy and Jonathan at Efficient Renewables to upgrade our heating and hot water. It’s not just the great job they did on our system, they were there for us afterwards with help and advice. That for me is peace of mind, something you can’t buy.”Miriam and Peter Mullan, May 2024

East Coast Energy heat pumps installer

East Coast Energy is another one-stop renewables shop for homes and businesses across Ireland. It provides and installs solar panels and EV chargers as well as heat pumps, and its installers are certified by Safe Electric for home electrical jobs.

East Coast Energy works with manufacturer MasterTherm Ireland to install, monitor and maintain MasterTherm’s heat pumps, both air source and ground source. Engineers will continually monitor your pump’s performance via the internet, and you also get your own remote control mobile app.

The company also partners with financing firm Humm, whose repayment plans include a Klarna-style ‘buy now pay later’ scheme.

East Coast Energy has the best customer feedback of any Irish heat pump installer we looked at, although with just 45 Trustpilot reviews it’s not a massive sample. Reviews express delight at competitive quotes, fast installation, tidy work and friendly but professional customer service. The firm also has a presence on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, making them feel friendly and approachable.

Pros
  • Superb customer feedback, with a 4.7 Trustpilot rating
  • Customers praise competitive quotes, fast installation and aftercare
  • Provides MasterTherm heat pumps, among the most efficient you can buy
  • Also installs solar panels and EV chargers, so this is a one-stop green shop
  • Installers are Safe Electric registered for extra peace of mind
Cons
  • A young company, founded in 2021 and with little business info on its website
  • Most customer reviews are for solar installations
  • Only installs MasterTherm heat pumps, so if you're keen on a different brand you will need to consider other installers

What East Coast Energy’s customers say:

“I got a heat pump and 10 solar panels installed and everything has gone without a hitch. When there was a possible leak (not their fault) they sent out a plumber. Delighted with the customer service.”  – Terry, March 2024

“This company is very easy to deal with. They came out to assess and were so knowledgeable and easy to chat to. Quote came in very quickly and was very competitive. After that the installation was booked in quickly.”Orla Fee, November 2024

NRG Panel screenshot

NRG Panel is among the most helpful installers when it comes to applying for an Irish heat pump grant. Its in-house team of grant coordinators guides you through the SEAI application process and does what it can to win you the maximum €6,500. The company also carries out the energy assessment that your home will need.

As you can probably tell from its name, NRG Panel is not a heat pump specialist. It began as a solar panel specialist, and is the sole solar panel installer for Electric Ireland. After adding EV chargers and energy storage batteries to its list of services, it acquired leading Galway heat pump installer JFW Renewables in 2024.

NRG has opted to install Daikin heat pumps. Daikin’s Altherma model appears on our list of the best heat pumps you can buy, where we praised its outstanding performance even when outside temperatures are well below freezing. In rural areas of Ireland, that’s a vital advantage.

The company also partners with Financing Ireland to offer what it calls a “green lending solution” to spread the cost of your switch to clean heating.

NRG Panel has doubled in size year on year to become one of Ireland’s largest renewable energy services firms. It now claims to have installed more than 15,000 systems across the island of Ireland.

Large companies don’t always deliver the most personal customer service, but NRG Panel excels in this regard, too. It boasts an excellent 4.6 Trustpilot rating from just under 500 reviews, with customers praising fast installations, competitive quotes with no hard sell, and a “smooth and effortless” process.

Pros
  • Guides you through the grant application process, including carrying out the essential assessment of your home
  • Provides and installs Daikin heat pumps, which are among the best you can buy
  • The company's large size gives us confidence in its operations and financing
  • Excellent customer feedback praises undisruptive installations and professional approach
Cons
  • Historically a solar specialist, and heat pumps are new to its line-up of services
  • You may not get the local, personal touch that a regional specialist can offer
  • A few negative comments mention lack of communication, but the company responds to all reviews
  • Only installs Daikin heat pumps

What NRG Panel’s customers say:

“We had a very pleasant experience dealing with NRG when installing a heat pump and upgrading our solar panels. NRG did a full assessment and designed the system to our needs and specifications. The installation teams were very professional and efficient. Everything was done on time with minimum disruption.”  – Stan F, May 2024

Eurotech Renewables screenshot

Eurotech Renewables has a long and proud history. Established in 1982 as underfloor heating specialists, this family-run company was one of the first Irish energy installers to offer green heating systems.

The company now serves most of Ireland and Northern Ireland with a wide range of systems including air source and ground source heat pumps, solar panels, geothermal heating and wind turbines.

The large-scale installations on Eurotech’s Projects web page are truly impressive. The company has kitted out historical buildings and huge commercial properties with heat pump systems, wind turbine farms and even self-contained climate-controlled energy centres.

Eurotech does carry out residential work too, but the emphasis on large-scale work is evident from its website. There are photos aplenty of its huge Eurotech heating systems, but nothing about the pumps it uses for home customers. We will do some digging and update this article when we get the information.

Pros
  • Offers more types of renewable heating system than any other installer in our rundown
  • It's been going for 40 years, so brings first-hand experience of numerous systems and the industry's evolution
  • Claims it has saved its clients €60,000,056 in heating costs since 1982
Cons
  • Online presence lacks polish, with a user-unfriendly website, no Trustpilot reviews and no social media
  • Website contains no information about the heat pump brands it uses for residential installations
  • Seems to prioritise large-scale work
Sterio Renewables screenshot

Most of the companies we’ve mentioned offer many types of clean energy systems and tend to focus heavily on solar, but Sterio Renewables is a heat pump specialist.

Niall Sterio has over 20 years of experience in heating systems and gas installations, and he’s now turned his expertise to renewable heating, which his teams install across Ireland.

Sterio Renewables is another firm that installs Daikin heat pumps, which are among the best you can buy. It has a polished online presence that includes Facebook, Instagram and Golden Pages, however there are no customer reviews on Trustpilot at the time of writing. We look forward to bring you up to date with the progress of this promising new installer.

Pros
  • Heat pump specialist with 20 years of experience
  • Serves domestic and commercial customers across Ireland
  • Niall Sterio is an engaging online presence, and his accessibility gives us confidence in his company
Cons
  • Sterio Renewables was only founded in 2024, so it has yet to establish itself in a fast-growing market
  • No reviews on Trustpilot, but we'll keep our eyes out for customer feedback

Accreditation: All the companies we considered for this list are certified by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). This is important if you want to claim grant funding. We also looked for installers registered with Ireland’s Micro Renewable Energy Federation (MREF).

Product choice: Most heat pump installers work with one brand of pump. When discussing your options, ask about the brands and models they provide.

Guarantees: The best installers include workmanship and “comfort” guarantees as well as product warranties. Ask about these before you hire an installer.

Customer feedback: We analysed more than 1,000 verified customer reviews via Trustpilot and Checkatrade and prioritised companies with a high proportion of positive reviews.

Customer service: We gave companies credit for responding quickly and graciously to feedback, and for offering easy ways to get in touch.

Industry experience: The heat pumps industry is still young, so you won’t find many companies with decades of experience. But if a firm has spent years installing heating or renewables, you can be fairly sure it knows its stuff.

Range of services: Many heat pump installers also offer insulation, solar panels and EV charger installation. It’s worth forming a relationship with them if you plan a switch to other sources of green energy.

Value for money: We didn’t just look for the cheapest quotes overall, but considered a balance of cost, quality and transparency about pricing.

Grant and finance support: We looked for companies offering easy, flexible repayments and help with grant applications.

Geographical coverage: The best installers cover most of Ireland and Northern Ireland, but we recommend considering local firms too. Use our free heat pump installation quote tool to find installers near you.
