Cornwall-based heat pump manufacturer Kensa, has won the International Technology Energy Award at the Energy Institute’s International Energy Awards for its Shoebox NX ground source heat pump. The 2025 awards received more than 140 entries from 29 countries.

Kensa’s Shoebox NX heat pump won the award  for its potential to decarbonise homes on a large scale and make efficient, low-carbon heating more accessible.

The pump was designed and manufactured in the UK and allows for large-scale adoption of renewable heating through it, providing thousands of homes with efficient, low-carbon heating

Tasmin Lishman, CEO, Kensa, said the heat pump can help solve energy efficiency challenges, including possibly improving EPC ratings by up to two bands in low-scoring properties.

“Thousands of homes, from new builds to century-old Edwardian social flats are currently heated by Kensa’s original Shoebox heat pumps and more than a decade after its launch, the Showbox NX aims to build on that legacy,” Lishman said.

Installing these heat pumps in social houses is helping decarbonise stock, boost energy efficiency and cut energy bills. In new builds, it’s accelerating them to meet the upcoming Future Homes Standard, which is designed to phase our gas boilers.

The Shoebox NX launched in February 2024 and has also won Innovation Product of the Year at the 2024 Unlock Net Zero Awards and the Best Heat Pump at the 2024 Build It Awards.

Lishman continued: “It’s brilliant for the Shoebox NX heat pump to receive this prestigious award. The game changing, compact heat pump has redefined what ground source heat pumps can deliver.

“The Shoebox NX does exactly that – and more – and brings us closer to a future where every home has access to better, more efficient heating.”
