Watch episode 4 of Positive Energy – powered by The Eco Experts, with solar expert Claire Gardner in conversation with host Chris Hambling and editor Roland Ellison

For episode 4 of the Positive Energy podcast, we’re proud to welcome our first female guest on the show.

Claire Gardner is Marketing Manager, Europe at Solis Inverters and she is an ambassador for the Women in Solar Europe network (WiSEu).

As a founding member of WiSEu, Claire has been working since 2023 to educate, mentor and build a strong community of women across the European solar industry who all share the same goals of equality and diversity. She has worked in marketing for Solis since 2020.

Only 17% of senior management positions in solar are currently women, but despite the small percentage, Claire said: “Solar as a sector within energy is further ahead than oil and gas.”

As Solis is a world leader in the solar inverter supply chain, we asked Claire what exactly a solar inverter is and how they work.

We also asked her about what it means to be a woman in the solar industry, what’s being done to promote equality, and what can be done by the government to ensure a brighter and greener future.

We also talked about the need for the energy sector to become more forward-thinking in its approach to women in the workforce, and how men’s voices are needed too in order to push for more diversity in the solar industry.

We spoke to Claire just before the General Election 2024, and some things have changed since then, with the new government approving planning on some large solar sites, and the BSI releasing PAS 63100 about where batteries should be sited. Speak to a trusted installer about what these new recommendations mean for your home.
