- An AI heat pump will be ‘game-changing’ for homeowners and housebuilders
- Energy bills could be reduced by over 80%
- Wondrwall’s Home Energy Management System uses AI to modify energy demand
The Wondrwall Group, a UK-based energy equipment and solutions provider, has launched the world’s first AI heat pump which it claims will redefine the possibilities of low-carbon energy efficiency.
This is a first for the company which had previously prioritised infrared and direct-electrical heating systems. According to the company, it will be “the world’s most intelligent heat pump system”.
The air source heat pump reduces energy consumption, lowers running costs and supports grid flexibility, marking a new era of low-carbon heating efficiency.
It is also fully integrated with Wondrwall’s AI-powered Home Energy Management System (HEMS), a system that enables your house to achieve “net-zero” electricity use.
It does this by learning the thermal performance of a home, typical energy use, and user preferences through sensor technology to adapt energy usage based on occupancy and user behaviours.
The system also has auto-tuning to adjust to building heat loss and predictive weather compensation, allowing the heat pump to modify energy demand to meet grid requirements without affecting comfort.
In cooling mode the heat pump operates from 14°C – 45°C, in heating mode it functions from -15°C to 45°C, and in domestic hot water mode, it operates from 25°C – 45°C, with a water outlet temperature range of 20°C – 65°C.
Potential ‘game changer’ for home heating
According to Wondrwall, this heat pump innovation could be ‘game-changing’ for homeowners and housebuilders. Combining HEMS and intelligent heat pump controls, energy bills can be reduced by up to 80% compared to similar properties with a standalone heat pump.
Mark Lufkin, Chief Product Officer at Wondrwall, said the heat pump will offer “multiple benefits” for homeowners and housebuilders”.
Lufkin went on to say that trials show that the heat pump has the potential to cut energy bills by 80% compared to homes with a standard device, and that the company expects it to appeal to people “looking to achieve cost savings and energy efficiencies that exceed current Future Homes Standard performance”.
As well as the product launch, Wondrwall are also opening their HEMS platform to all heat pump manufacturers to try and promote industry-wide collaboration and tackle climate challenges as a community.
Lufkin continued: “With the launch of this new heat pump we aim to demonstrate the art of the possible when it comes to heat pump energy efficiency.
“However, opening up our API to other manufacturers will mean that all heat pump manufacturers will also be able to benefit from the AI-powered savings Wondrwall’s HEMS can offer.
“This is a first for us, and the industry, and we are very encouraged by the interest generated so far.”
With heat pump manufacturers able to integrate, it creates the potential for intelligent homes, regardless of preferred heat pump supplier. Wondrwall also aims to help the industry achieve the Future Homes Standard targets with this step.
Daniel Burton, Wondrwall Group CEO, said the company is “committed to developing the products and services” to scale the rollout of carbon net-zero technology.
“Not only are we launching an intelligent heat pump solution that delivers impressive energy efficiencies, but for the first time, we are opening the Wondrwall system to all heat pump manufacturers, allowing all to benefit from the energy-saving potential our technology has to offer.”
