Solar panels are among the best ways to reduce your energy bills and slash your carbon footprint. Don’t worry about the Irish weather – solar panels are definitely worth getting in Ireland, and Ireland’s government offers grants worth thousands of euros to help you buy them.
No wonder solar is proving so popular. Around 100,000 Irish homes currently have solar panels installed, and the number is rising fast. According to the latest figures from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Ireland generated 0.65 TWh of solar electricity in 2023, more than 300% up on the year before. Ireland is on course to generate 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
But switching to solar is still a big decision, and despite the government’s help it can be an expensive one. The SEAI Solar PV Grant recently fell from a €2,100 maximum to €1,800 for homes. According to Ecoplex Energy, the average Irish solar installation costs between €6,000 and €17,000. So it’s a big investment.
To help you spend your money wisely, our researchers have compiled a list of Ireland’s best solar panel installers.
We began by analysing more than 100 of Ireland’s 400+ SEAI-accredited solar installers, looking at criteria such as affordability and industry experience. We finally whittled down the list to the top six, below.

Best solar specialist: Ecoplex Energy

Dublin-based Ecoplex is a relative newcomer to the energy industry, but it’s grown fast. In less than five years since launch, it has carried out more than 8,000 solar installations for residential and commercial customers across Ireland.
Ecoplex is no one-stop-shop giant, however – and we like that about it. It’s still small enough to offer personal service, and its teams have many years of experience working with solar PV systems, EV chargers and foam insulation.
As part of this service, the company prioritises claiming all the grant funding you’re entitled to. As well as applying for the grant on your behalf, the in-house teams also help customers with the paperwork that inevitably comes with having solar panels installed. There’s more help on Ecoplex’s website, which is clear and easy to follow.
Customer feedback for Ecoplex is excellent. More than 80% of its Trustpilot reviews give the maximum 5 stars, adding up to a 4.5 overall score. The phrase “very professional” is mentioned several times in reviews from verified customers, along with praise for the friendliness and helpfulness of Ecoplex’s teams – and kudos for its competitive pricing.
- Big enough to be reliable and ambitious, but small enough to offer a specialist focus and personal service
- Customer feedback is superb, praising workmanship and professionalism
- Prices are highly competitive
- Protects all solar PV installations with a 30-year product and performance warranty
- Doesn't publish information about the solar panels it uses, so it's tricky to make an informed decision
What Ecoplex Energy’s customers say:
“Excellent. I dealt with many of their staff including quoting, design, roofing installation, electrical, SEAI grant, customer service and others – they were all very professional and helpful. Seems to be a very well run operation” – Lorcan O’Tighearnaigh, March 2025
“We were in contact with many different solar providers, but Ecoplex were immediate to respond, very friendly and simply couldn’t be beaten on price” – Paul, March 2025
Best for commercial installations: Activ8 Solar Energies

Activ8 is a pioneering force in solar energy in Ireland. Launched nearly two decades ago, it has grown fast to be one of the nation’s largest solar installers. It’s also one of the only Irish installers to make its own solar panels: the 445W Atlas model.
Activ8’s most impressive projects are huge commercial installations, for clients including the Irish Marine Institute (pictured above) and the SSE Arena in Belfast. However it also serves residential customers all over Ireland and Northern Ireland. It now employs around 200 people and has installed more than 100,000 solar panels.
Activ8 currently installs solar panels, batteries and EV chargers. It doesn’t list heat pumps among its services, but that may change following recent partnership deals. Activ8 is now 50% owned by SSE Airtricity, one of Ireland’s best heat pump installers, and owns a 50% stake in heat pump company Allbrite.
Activ8 has earned numerous industry awards, including Business All-Star Solar Energy Company of the Year 2024 and Established Entrepreneur of the Year 2023. The best award, though, is great customer feedback – and Activ8’s is excellent. A 4.8 Trustpilot score from more than 2,000 reviews is unusually good, especially for a company of this size.
- Installs solar panels, batteries and EV chargers for homes and businesses across Ireland and parts of Britain
- Has delivered large and small commercial projects, so would be ideal for helping your business meet its green targets
- Works with its own heat pump model, so its installers are specialists in the system
- Customers praise the company's professionalism, customer service and efficient PV systems
- A few negative reviews mention pricing and sales tactics, but Activ8 replies graciously to each criticism
What Activ8’s customers say:
“Extremely professional, went at length to explain the workings (and) access to the app. Punctual and tidy. Would have no hesitation in recommending this company. Can see the savings already” – Margaret McGuirk, March 2025
“I am particularly impressed with how Activ8 handled the entire process of application, applying for grant to SEAI, BER, as well as other forms which had to be completed prior to installation” – Jim O’Grady, March 2025
Best for customer service: PV Generation

All the companies we feature in this article have very good customer feedback, but PV Generation’s reviews are on another level.
“Great experience from start to finish” is a regular sentiment among the nearly 800 verified customer reviews that add up to a 4.8 Trustpilot score. There’s more superb feedback on Facebook, Instagram and Trustindex. “Smooth and professional”, “quick, efficient, and respectful of my property”, “aftercare service is second to none”… yes, these are some very happy customers.
You might expect such glowing feedback for a small local company, but PV Generation is a large and growing firm. Its teams have installed more than 4,000 solar PV systems across Ireland since 2015. Most reviews are from residential customers, but it also installs solar for commercial and farming clients.
Perhaps the secret to PV Generation’s success is the “turnkey” nature of its service. This means it offers a comprehensive package that covers everything from planning and design to final setup. All you have to do is “turn the key” to start using the system. PV will be there to help and advise, and you also get a secure online portal where you can monitor your project and ask questions.
Like many of the best solar panel installers, PV Generation works with one brand of solar panel. This ensures its teams know the product inside out. It uses Bauer 445W solar panels, which incorporate N-Type Cell Technology for higher efficiency and durability. The company also installs storage batteries, Zappi EV chargers and MyEnergi hot water diverters.
- Some of the best customer feedback we've seen for any company
- Customers praise guidance from teams through the installation process – and beyond
- Offers plenty of info about the products it works with, from Bauer panels and Huawei inverters to Van der Valk mounting systems
- Only installs Bauer panels, so if you're keen on a different brand you will need to consider other installers
What PV Generation’s customers say:
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the entire experience. From start to finish, the process was smooth and professional. The installation team was quick, efficient, and respectful of my property. They worked seamlessly and had the job completed in no time. Since the installation, I am already seeing the positive impact of going solar” – Graham Flood, March 2025
“5 star rating for a 5 star team. I have recommended PV Generation to all my family and friends that are in the market for solar panels. The addition of the aftercare service from the team is second to none!” – Linda O’Brien, March 2025
Best newcomer: Ohk Energy (was NRG Panel)

Ohk Energy is a newcomer, but only in name. Formed by a merger of solar installer NRG Energy and heat pump installer JFW Renewables, the new company boasts decades of experiences. Ohk Energy now offers a whole range of renewable energy and heating installations for home and business customers across Ireland.
Ohk is a retrofit specialist. This means it has a particular focus on installing solar panels on existing builds, including older homes.
The company’s teams work with TW solar panels. The bifacial nature of these 435W panels makes them especially suited to the Irish climate, because their high efficiency can produce good levels of electricity even when the sun struggles to shine.
All reputable solar installers will apply for the SEAI solar panel grant on your behalf, but Ohk Energy is particularly helpful in this regard. Its in-house team of grant coordinators is entirely dedicated to getting the full €1,800 off your bill. The company also partners with Finance Ireland to offer what it calls a “green lending solution” to spread the cost.
Ohk is so new that it doesn’t have any Trustpilot reviews yet, but NRG Panel had excellent reviews for years. It gathered a 4.6 Trustpilot rating from just under 500 reviews, with customers praising fast installations, competitive quotes with no hard sell, and “smooth and effortless” admin. We’ve quoted a couple of reviews from verified NRG Panel customers below.
- Combines two experienced, reputable companies: NRG Energy and JFW Renewables
- Retrofit specialist, so would be a great choice if you live in an older property
- Excellent customer feedback praises efficient, undisruptive installations and professional approach
- Only provides TW solar panels, so if your heart is set on a different model you'll have to look for another installer
- Ohk itself is new to the market, with no customer reviews online yet. You may prefer a name you know
What NRG Panel’s customers say:
“Flawless! All the options were clearly explained to us. There was no hard sell, we were sold exactly what we wanted. The installation was completed in under four hours and we were shown how everything worked. The installation team were highly efficient and professional” – FJPK, November 2024
“NRG Panel looked after the whole project from start to finish. First they sent out a surveyor to check the roof (and) wiring, then they organised everything to do with the SEAI grant, the BER survey and sent details to our provider Electric Ireland. Very happy that we selected NRG Panel and would have no hesitation recommending them” – Maurice Power, March 2024
Best for experience: Efficient Renewables

Efficient Renewables is one of Ireland’s longest-established installers of clean energy systems, including heat pumps and underfloor heating as well as solar panels.
Operating from County Donegal since 2009, its teams have more than 40 years’ experience installing solar PV systems for residential and commercial clients across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Efficient Renewables’ website is a little rough and ready, but it contains plenty of information about solar PV energy and SEAI grants. Unfortunately there’s no info about the brand of solar panel Efficient’s teams work with, so we have contacted them for details. We do know that they install SolarEdge PV optimisation systems and Solis inverters.
Most green energy companies don’t operate showrooms, but Efficient Renewables does – so you can see its solar panels before buying, and ask questions in person. It’s well worth a visit if you’re anywhere near Newtowncunningham, and will help you get a better idea of the type and size of system that would best suit your home.
Customer feedback on Efficient Renewables is limited but excellent, with particular praise for the installers’ friendly guidance and aftercare. The company has only 17 verified reviews on Trustpilot, but only one of them gives it four stars – all the others give it the maximum five.
- Customer feedback is limited but excellent, praising workmanship and aftercare
- One of Ireland's longest-established renewables installers, so you know you're in experienced hands
- Has a showroom in Co. Donegal so you can see before you buy
- Doesn't say which solar panel brands and models it works with, so it's hard to make decisions before contacting them
- Limited feedback makes it hard to judge this company alongside larger rivals
What Efficient Renewables’ customers say:
“Having showrooms and staff to talk to in person is a major plus. After getting panels on two houses I can say they are a very good company to deal with.” – Rose Sheridan, Jan 2025
“I went with this company as they were most professional from the outset. The roofers who came to install the panels were so efficient. The electrician was also amazing and explained all in layperson’s terms.” – Roslyn O’Hora, March 2024
Best for financing: East Coast Energy

East Coast Energy is another one-stop renewables shop for homes and businesses across Ireland. It provides and installs heat pumps and EV chargers as well as solar panels, and its installers are certified by Safe Electric for home electrical jobs.
The company offers all the usual help with SEAI grants, but its financing options offer useful extra help. It partners with financing firm Humm, whose repayment plans include a Klarna-style ‘buy now pay later’ scheme.
Like Efficient Renewables, East Coast Energy has outstanding customer feedback but there’s not a great deal of it. Its 45 Trustpilot reviews praise competitive quotes, fast installation, tidy work and friendly but professional customer service. East Coast also has a presence on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and this makes them feel friendly and approachable.
- Excellent customer feedback, with a 4.7 Trustpilot rating
- Customers praise non-pushy sales approach, competitive quotes and fast installation
- Also installs heat pumps and EV chargers, so this is a one-stop green shop
- Installers are Safe Electric registered for extra peace of mind
- Heat pumps get top billing on East Coast Energy's website, and you may prefer a firm that entirely specialises in solar
- No information about the brand and model of solar panels it installs
What East Coast Energy’s customers say:
“Great company to deal with. Very efficient installation of my solar system. Super competitive price and no dodgy sales tactics like some other quotes I received. Highly recommended” – Eoin Bulfin, Jan 2025
“East Coast Energy gave me very good advice on the entire solar system I was installing, and the price was very competitive. The fact that the company came with experience and was local made (me decide) to give them the contract” – Kevin Loughlin, Dec 2024
Our methodology explained
Here are the 10 key criteria we used when narrowing down to our six top installers:
Accreditation: All the companies we considered including are certified by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). We also prioritised installers registered with Ireland’s Micro Renewable Energy Federation (MREF) and Safe Electric.
Product choice: Most Irish solar panel installers partner with one or two panel makers to distribute and install their products. Ask about which solar panels, inverters and other system components your installer uses.
Guarantees: The best installers include workmanship guarantees to cover installation, as well as product and performance warranties for your panels.
Customer feedback: We analysed more than 1,000 verified customer reviews via Trustpilot and other sites, and prioritised companies with a high proportion of positive reviews.
Customer service: We gave companies credit for responding quickly and graciously to feedback, and for offering easy ways to get in touch.
Industry experience: If a company has a long and successful history of installing solar panels, that’s a pretty good indication of its reliability.
Range of services: All the solar panel installers we feature here also install solar batteries and inverters, and most install EV chargers. Some also offer heat pumps, insulation and even boilers. It’s worth forming a relationship with a “one-stop shop” provider if you plan a switch to multiple renewable systems.
Value for money: We didn’t just look for the cheapest quotes overall, but considered a balance of cost, quality and transparency about pricing.
Grant and finance support: We looked for companies offering easy, flexible repayments and help with grant applications.
Geographical coverage: The best installers cover the island of Ireland and even beyond, but we recommend considering local firms too. Use our free solar installation quote tool to find installers near you.
